2002 Club Championship

September 28-29

Songbird Hills Golf Club held its seventh annual Club Championship Tournament on September 28th & 29th. The weather was terrific as were some of the golf scores! Nearly 50 golfers participated in the Championship this year.

The Men's Championship Flight got off to a quick start with David Wagner shooting a first round 75 then following it up on Sunday with a 2-under par, 68 and became the 2002 Men's Club Champion by a 16 stroke margin with a 143 total! Winning 2nd place by way of a scorecard playoff was Ben Kendziorski with a two day total of 159. Third place honors went to Terry Mickelson at 159, who also won 3rd place in the 2001 Championship.

The Men's "A-Flight" Division was close after the first day with only 4 strokes separating the 11 golfers in the flight. The second round spread things out a bit with 1st Place honors going to Bill Reedy with a total score of 165. 2nd Place, two strokes back, went to Gary Hamberger at 167 and 3rd Place was Mike Keller with a 171.

The Men's "B-Flight" Division 1st place trophy went to Mike Grzesiak who finished with a 175 two- round total. Mike won 2nd Place in 2001 in this division. 2nd place winner Cody Glorioso finished just one stroke back at 176 and Bob Morgan finished with a 180 to take 3rd place.

The Ladies Championship Flight seemed to start off the same as in 2001, with Carol Koopman taking a comfortable lead into round two. Aside from a few bumps along the way, the final results ended about the same too! For the third year in a row Carol took home the trophy for Ladies Club Champion, with her two round total of 182! Coming in 6 strokes back in 2nd place was Marge Dethloff at 188, who also took 2nd behind Carol in 2001's championship! Third place honors go to Claudia Kelm after a shooting a total of 190.
